Goldenrod"Golden Fleece" Goldenrod

Scientific Name: Solidago altissima/Glomeruliflorae

Native

Herbaceous Perennial, Zone 5-9/1-1/2’ tall x 2’ wide, clump forming.

Only recently has interest for Goldenrod as a garden plant, begun to spread. The late summer-fall flowering entices butterflies and bees en mass to the garden. Hairstreaks, sulphurs and skippers are particularly attracted to Goldenrod. Monarchs visit it during their autumn migration. A welcome sight in the browning heat of August and September. And if you like, they can be cut and brought indoors for a long-lasting flower arrangement.

Full Sun. The soil needs to be well amended for drainage, preferably a sand loam. Goldenrods prefer moderately fertile, dry soils, and plenty of air circulation to keep fungal diseases at bay. Extremely drought tolerant.
