Annual or herbaceous perennial, or small shrub, Zones 6-8/ height varies with species.

Sennas are the larval host for a number of sulphur butterflies. In our region the Sleepy Orange, Cloudless Sulphur and Little Yellow all visit this plant to deposit their eggs. The seeds are important winter food for many birds.
