American Meteorological Society

The American Meteorological Society is the scientific and professional organization serving the atmospheric and related sciences. Their Web site
features an array of online journals, newsletters and other publications dealing with earth science and weather. The meteorology careers publication
"Challenges of Our Changing Atmosphere" appears here online. The Education Programs section includes teacher professional development
opportunities such as the Datastreme Project in meteorology, the Maury Project in oceanography, and Project Atmosphere promoting partnerships
and curriculum activities and materials for classrooms. Summer internship opportunities for students are listed, as are conferences and meetings
concerning meteorology and the earth sciences. 

Association for the Study of Literature & Environment

ASLE promotes the exchange of ideas and information pertaining to literature that considers the relationship between human beings and the natural
world, and encompasses nonfiction nature writing, nature poetry and environmental fiction. Their Web site includes general information, publications,
conferences and events, archives, discussion lists and links to other literature and environment Web sites. 

E Patrol

An independent, not-for-profit foundation created to help teach about environmental problems, E Patrol is sponsored by 20 businesses, industry
groups and other organizations. Features include Endangered Alert (complete with hyperlinked world map), Energy Savers, E Patrol Quiz and an Art
Contest. 

ERIC Clearinghouse for Science, Mathematics and Environmental Education

This particular ERIC Clearinghouse includes digests and bulletins written for ERIC about environmental education. It also contains links to other
environmental education organizations and Web sites as well as a list of environmental education journals. And if you want to cruise the larger ERIC
world on the Web, the site includes a link to the ERIC home page. 

GLOBE

Students in schools around the world conduct a variety of local environmental measurements of soil, hydrology, atmosphere, and biology and use the
Internet to submit their data to scientists and share their local data with students in other participating schools. Many activities can relate to the
concept of an ecological address. 

GREEN: Global Rivers Environmental Education Network

This interdisciplinary program improves education through global networking that promotes watershed sustainability. It is a resource to schools and
communities as they study their watersheds, understand their role in a sustainable society and consider options for resolving issues they uncover in
their studies and investigations. Includes a catalog of environmental education materials and resources, links to several environmental education
newsgroups and to watershed education resources and success stories.

Monarch Watch

Monarch Watch is a collaborative network of students, teachers, volunteers and researchers working together to further science education, promote
conservation of Monarch butterflies and involve thousands of students and adults in a cooperative study of the Monarch's fall migration. Learn how to

NASA's Observatorium

Investigate our earth and space environment using games, images, and links to other activities. NASA's Observatorium features an Education section
highlighting Eyes in the Sky remote sensing information and activities as well as information about the changing Earth and activities related to the
atmosphere, land and water topics. A Planet Earth section will help you learn about the applications of satellite data from space to things like
tsunamis, forest management, and agriculture. This site includes a Fun and Games section just for kids, an image gallery, a search feature and much
more related to the earth and space sciences. 

National Gardening Association

The National Gardening Association website has a library and article search and includes information for kids' gardening in classrooms. 

National Geographic Online

This comprehensive site includes pages about the National Geographic Society and Store, timely feature stories, National Geographic print and
multimedia publications, educational resources and a page for kids. Find out all about the National Geography Bee and play online. Educational
resources include Collectors Corner, Map Machine, Publications Index, classroom activities, grant opportunities, teacher and student e-mail forums,
geography education standards information and links to many related geography and map web sites. 

National Wildlife Federation

The site provides information and resources for educators, students and others regarding wildlife and natural resources. Programs described on the
site include National Wildlife Week 2000 (April 16-22), and Animal Tracks, which features classroom and internet resources for grades K-12. The
site also mentions the Schoolyard Habitats program which helps students, teachers and community members to create wildlife habitat areas on
school grounds. 

North Carolina Aquariums

Tour North Carolina's three aquariums on-line, find visitor information and read details about programs and events including teacher workshops, field
trips to the aquariums, and aquarium staff outreach to schools within 150 miles of any of the three aquariums. This site includes a calendar of events
and schedules for the aquariums at Roanoke Island, Pine Knoll Shores and Fort Fisher. You can also learn about the Aquarium Society, Aquarium
publications, expansion plans, staff, and related WWW links. 

North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR)

The NCDENR home page includes links to two dozen divisions and major offices and programs within the department, including those in natural
resources and the environment. Natural Resource links include the Aquariums, Marine Fisheries, Environmental Education, Forest Resources, Parks
and Recreation, Soil and Water Conservation, the Museum of Natural Sciences, the Wildlife Resources Commission, and the Zoological Park.
