Approved Workshops |
"By taking the required workshops to acquire my certification, I have learned many new ways to reach and teach my high school students. Environmental Science is no longer just a boring subject, but a subject to be appreciated and learned with gusto!" High School Science Teacher
The following workshops and courses have been reviewed and approved by the Environmental Education Certification Review Committee for completing Eligibility Criteria I: Instructional Workshops. Workshops will be added to this list after their approval by the committee. Although approval of workshops does not hinge on a balanced presentation of alternative points of view, workshop sponsors should, in their presentations, promote informed objective decision-making. All workshops and courses, however, must be consistent with the definition of environmental education as cited on page 8 of the North Carolina Environmental Education Plan. In selecting workshops and courses, candidates for North Carolina Environmental Education Certification should consider a variety of experiences that will broaden their range as environmental educators. Information about scheduled professional development workshops that may be used for Components I, II, or III of the Certification Program may be found in listings below.

Course/workshop sponsors may submit workshops and courses for approval to the Certification Review Committee. The workshops must support the definition of environmental education as stated in the North Carolina Environmental Education Plan; include clear environmental education objectives which incorporate both content knowledge and teaching methodology, and provide a workshop evaluation strategy. Workshops should also provide participants with a comprehensive, balanced representation of the environmental concepts stressed in the workshop so that learners can evaluate bias in information and materials, and evaluate the validity of the source. For specific information on the instructional workshop criteria, workshop sponsors should request the instructional workshop information packet. |
